One of the moose cow and calf pairs we saw on the trail to Alaska Basin
Smith Wilderness. We made a long
climb up Green Mountain before
descending the switchbacks to the
valley below. Our lunch break was
taken on the banks of the pristine
lower Green Lake. As we were eating our sandwiches you could see
the trout swimming close to shore.
After lunch we made a rocky climb
towards an alpine area where again
the wind greeted us fiercely. As we
continued to climb, the tip of the
Grand Teton became visible and
the further we went the more we
could see. At our photo op location
it seemed as though we could reach
out and touch the peaks, of course
they were actually a few miles away,
but it was a surreal moment that
makes you feel extremely small.
We then picked up the trail again
dropping down into a basin filled
with glacially deposited rocks and
boulders with small lakes scattered
