Moose creek falls in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness of Targhee National Forest. We ate lunch on the bluffs.
Trailhead where we would embark
for Paintbrush Canyon, the Paintbrush divide, and loop back around
through Cascade Canyon. While the
day didn’t go quite as we planned
it was filled with postcard worthy
scenery nearly the entire time. The
further we climbed toward the divide the more scenic it was. We felt
like celebrities most of the day as
nearly all of the fifty plus hikers we
met wanted to take our picture. We
were asked many times, “You are
taking those guys up there?” We politely answered we were and thanked
them for stepping off the trail and
continued on our way “up there.” The
scenery changed from the lush pine,
spruce, and fir forest to sparse alpine
terrain littered with rocks, glaciers,
moraines, and lots of wind. We were
thankful for our heavy coats, toboggans, and gloves at that point. The
views were absolutely breathtakingly
beautiful. We finally reached the divide and had a decision to make…
In our path was a huge snowfield
covering the entire side of a mountain and under it somewhere was
the trail. But of course to even cross
