is quieter and less commercialized, and thus a great location to base camp for our riding adventures. We were able to find accommodations for the horses on horsemotel.com at a private facility, Ears The Place owned by Elaine Johnson. She had spacious corrals for our equines to stre tch their legs and electric and water for our convenience. with not a scratch on anyone and no tire or engine problems. Our first day in the mountains we decided to give our guys a day to rest from their travels and acclimate to the elevation, as recommended by our veterinarians. We went to Jackson Hole for the day and did the “normal” tourist thing. We were camped at approximately 6,500’ but our riding would be between 8,000’-10,500’. Due to the lack of oxygen from the elevation horses can have serious problems if not given a chance to acclimate and/or pushed too hard while riding them. So our first day of riding we chose a trail with minimal elevation change based off looking at the contour lines of our topographic map. We arrived in Driggs just after dark on Sunday September 7th, but not before picking up our third partner in crime, Sheila Bullington, from the Jackson Hole airport with our four geldings! I’m sure we were a sight with a living quarters trailer and the windows dropped so the boys could check out the scenery and get some fresh mountain air. To say the least we got some looks.
