to remember! A celebration
honoring the life and works
of South Carolina Horsewoman, Marietta Gambrell was held at
the T. Ed Garrison Arena in Clemson,
South Carolina. Dignitaries and friends
numbering over 200 gathered to pay
tribute to the works and life of Marietta
Gambrell.

Horse Fair in Berlin, Germany. A highly
acclaimed Judge, she has conducted judging and training clinics across the United
States, Canada and Europe.
Dr. Gene W. Wood spearheaded the

Woody Sexton, Linda Symborski and
numerous friends of the Southern Plantation Walking Horse Association.
Marietta served on the TWHBEA
Board of Directors for 26 years, on the
TWHBEA Executive Committee for eight
years as Vice President of the Pleasure

She was the very first recipient of the
TWHBEA Pleasure Horse Ambassador
Award.
Division and later the Youth and By-Laws
Committees.
Marietta served on the Board Of Directors for the National Horse Show
Commission for three years and Vice
President of the very important NHSC
Judging Committee for one year.
She served on the South Carolina
Walking Horse Association Board of
Directors and is currently President of
the Plantation Walking Horse Association.

Council, the South Carolina Horsemen’s
Council, the Southern Plantation Walking Horse Association, the Tennessee
Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’
Association (TWHBEA) and the Walking
Horse Owners Association (WHOA).
Any life lived with high acclaim for
achievements, contributions, and commitments to high ideals should be recognized; thus we would like to share
just a few of Marietta’s indelible marks
on the equine world.
Marietta Gambrell bred, trained
and raised two Supreme Versatility
Champions (Whirl’s Girl in 1990 and
Whip’s Wayward Lass in 1993). In 1987
Marietta represented the Tennessee
Walking Horse breed in the Kentucky
Derby Pegasus Parade aboard Fol De
Rol and in 1996 she was chosen to be
a representative of the equine industry
in the Olympics Parade
In celebration of Marietta’s accomplishments,
a book was compiled detailing her life in the horse industry.
