W-E Schools District Focus February, 2014 | Page 2

Superintendent's Message

The district has made significant progress on several key initiatives this year and we continue to recognize the commitment and excitement of our staff and students as they stay engaged and focused on learning for the second half of the year. This month’s District Focus highlights a variety of accomplishments spanning communications, academics, athletics, facilities and community service. We continue to improve the format of this newsletter so that we can communicate more effectively with our community.

Our focus is always on students first, and being a well-rounded student is easy in W-E! I’m so proud of our students and how they perform in the classrooms, in sports and in the community and we have placed many of them in the spotlight in this issue. Enjoy reading about their successes.

State mandates can be overwhelming as legislation and policies continue to change. This month we summarize the key elements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee legislation. Our principals and teachers will work individually with students and their parents for whom this new legislation applies.

We are fortunate to work in a district that demonstrates a commitment to making students our central focus each and every day. The work of staff and students, as well as the support by our parents and the community, is appreciated. We will continue to teach, learn and grow together.
