Data crunching in the genes
Career choices are often determined when talented
individuals decide that they can make a difference
to others. That is certainly true for Ina Hoeschele,
professor of bioinformatics and statistics who, at 16,
decided she would work to learn about the genetic
basis of diseases after discovering her mother had
cancer.
Born near Schwäbisch Hall, Baden Württemberg, Germany, a town
of about 30,000 where her father was the mayor and her mother
a nurse, Hoeschele earned master
