VPHS Music Department We were going to get a music auditorium, which would alleviate all the problems that especially the Wind band had experienced by having to use the Blake Hall as a rehearsal and instrument storage venue. With the building of an auditorium, the choir, who had also used the Blake Hall to rehearse, the wind band and also the jazz band would have ample space to all be housed under one roof. Most important of all, the expensive instruments, amplification systems, etc would be secure and safe. The 2014 has been an exciting and rewarding year for the department. Towards the end of the second term, we heard loud banging noises throughout the day, saw walls come tumbling down, lockers being removed and girls’ bathroom facilities disappear. The remaining open hole was supporting the whole Music Department and we were nervous that we were going to go down next as our rooms were only being held by a few supporting pillars! Finally the long awaited news came. auditorium is almost ready to be officially opened and named and for this the whole department would like to offer our most sincere thanks to everyone who had a role to play in allowing this to become a reality. In the third term, Mr W. Jansen Van Rensburg decided to teach only three days a week, allowing him to spend more time on marketing himself and rehearsing for his own one-man band. This is when a decision was made to employ Miss Liske Potgieter, who has very close ties with the school as she was one of our top music learners in her Matric year. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at N.M.M.U. 98
