VPHS “As a professional actress, who was very involved in the arts and was influenced to pursue this career by my VP Afrikaans teacher, Lizinda Schrapler. I am so happy to see that events like this are still happening and that there is still such a focus on creative opportunities for the scholars. Is it any wonder that VP scholars have gone on to become acclaimed local and international performers?” Kyle Buckingham (2002) notched up a significant first in his fledgling Ironman career, when he won his maiden professional title in Lake Placid, New York. He registered a remarkable victory in 8:38:43. Kyle turned pro in January and lives and trains in Cape Town. He said: “I am over the moon to have crossed the finish line in first place - it is a dream come true.” We are so proud of you, Kyle! Gino Fabbri (1988) and his wife Philippa recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Many know Gino as the PE comedian and musician. Philippa says “with love and laughter, there’s never a dull moment in their household.” She remembers his asking her to accompany him to the Valentine’s Dance at School in Grade 11 - and they have been together ever since! She also broke a 100m record, 800m record and U13 1500m record last year at various inter-school events. This year she won her U11 1200m race and is in the Northern Zone team, which finally leads up to Western Cape. Then the whole process starts again! Next year Nicola has been invited to run in Germany, which we are all looking forward to. For me as a parent it so nice to have a child step into my running shoes and do exactly the same distances that I did when I was at school. Both my girls, Ashleigh and Nicola, do Irish dancing and did well at Irish SA Competition last year. They have both qualified for SA’s in October this year.” Moosh (Bosch) Bolton (1975): “I left PE after my daughter, Deryn Bolton (2000), Matriculated from VP (with a full house of A’s) and wanted to study B Bus Sc in Cape Town. She suggested I move with her! So I did! It was challenging, to say the least, but it’s what Moms do for their kids! After 8 incredibly tough years in Cape Town - and with a working daughter who had a UCT degree under her belt - I needed t
