Eldred Oelofse’s claim
to Victorian Fame
Eldred Oelofse was VP’s 2nd Head boy to be appointed in 1951 when there were only 57 students
at the school. Mr Thorp was headmaster at the time
and celebrated with his Matrics at the end of the
year where they all congregated at his home in Hallack Road (house still standing) and were then taken
to see a movie. At 80, Eldred still clearly remembers the movie’s title, “The Cruel Sea”, because the
gesture of treating them as adults left a lasting impression on him.
