VPHS U15A The highlights of the season were, without a doubt, the wins over Pearson High School and Muir College. Both teams were challenging; one team possessing a stronger pack of forwards and the other having a highly skilled backline. However, this did not stop the gutsy U/15 team, and they held their nerve, beating two of the strongest rugby teams in their league. The U/15A rugby boys have developed into promising rugby players. It is vital to mention that the boys had immense commitment and were very punctual throughout the season. This proved to be one of the key points that led to their success. With yet another outstandingly successful season, the team has proven that they have not lost their hunger to succeed. The boys hold an astonishing 73 percent winning record and stand undefeated at home Derby Days. It is essential to acknowledge that our continuous competition was against some of the strongest and most competitive schools in the Eastern Cape region. Our captain, Josh Coleman, led from the front and always presented a cool head when it came to critical decisions in the game. Sixolile Pini, vice-captain, had the golden boot this year and kicked many vital conversions over the poles. Our top try scorers were Xabiso Menze, who became the playmaker of the team, and Hlomla ‘Fluff’ Ngcikwe, who became an unstoppable try scorer. The U/15A boys have become a well-established team and have created a great reputation for themselves. The U/15A rugby team received the rugby award for ‘Team of the Year’ and Josh Coleman and Sixolile Pini shared the award for ‘Junior Player of the Year’.
