VPHS U16 Both these victories were achieved during away matches. Despite suffering narrow losses against Cillie, Newton Tech and Woodridge, the boys continued to play good rugby throughout the season. Any of these fixtures could have gone either way. The u/16 rugby team saved their best performance for the last match of the season against Alexander Road High. VP managed to beat Alex in a tightly contested match, 5 – 0. This contest showed what these boys are made of; they showed guts, character and determination throughout. It has been a remarkable year for both coach and players. They enjoyed each other’s company through good times and bad. It was an absolute pleasure to coach these boys and I wish them well in their future endeavours on and off the rugby field. The boys started with pre-season training to get themselves ready for the tough games that lay ahead. The boys and their coach were extremely enthusiastic and this was particularly evident during the opening half of the season. The boys started well by beating Westering High in their opening match of the season 15 – 12 in an away game. During the second match of the season, VP showed great skill by completely outplaying DF Malherbe on their home ground by scoring 4 converted tries to beat them 28 – 0.
