The introduction of U16 rugby in 2014 made it a
difficult year for the 2nd Rugby team, by dramatically reducing the pool of prospective players.
We were unfortunate not to win any of our matches, but to see this team go out onto the field with
renewed determination each week was absolutely
amazing. It took a while for the team to really believe in themselves, but the core element in the team
never gave up.
This was very apparent in the last couple of games,
where we came back strongly in the second half,
especially the Derby against Alex. We trailed at
halftime with the score at 22 – 5 to Alex. Near the
end of the second half, the score changed dramatically to 27-24. There was a real chance we could
clinch it. A last gasp try gave Alex victory (32-24)
but we were so close and some spectacular rugby
was played in this nail-biting affair.

and to all the players who turned up regularly for
practice, always positive and ready to fight another
day. We wish every success to all the players as they
enter the next chapter of their lives.
