We were drawn in the group with Bethelsdorp, Lawson Brown and Ncedo High School. After our three group matches, we had won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1. We finished in second position, qualifying for the semi-finals. We met old friendly rivals, Vulumzi, in a very tightly contested match, which Vulumzi narrowly won 2 – 1. We went on to play in the 3rd / 4th play-off match against Hudson Park, which proved to be an even more difficult match. After neither team could find the back of the net during regulation time, the game went on to penalties. Landiswa Majola was our hero between the goals after making two saves that secured our 3rd place finish. At the end of the tournament, two of our players went away with individual awards – Trytan Bain was the tournament’s top goal-scorer with 6 goals and Landiswa Majola was named the goalkeeper of the tournament. Following our success in the Victoria Park Powerade Soccer Challenge, we took part in the NMMU Soccer Charity Cup in May. We won two of our three matches on our way to the final, beating Link- 198 side and Sanctor and losing to Bethelsdorp, who we went on to meet in the final of the competition as well. They once again showed their dominance and clinched the final convincingly, with our girls finishing in 2nd position. The highlight of the season for the 1st team was no doubt their tour to East London and participation in the East London Warrior Soccer Tournament. The girls completed day 1 of the Warrior Girls’ Soccer Tournament with a perfect record of 3 wins from 3 matches. Match1 vs Harvest: 8-0 (Scorers: Teneil Welgemoed x 2, Chloe Welgemoed, Daniella Patsalos, Mishka Lindoor, Trystan Bain, Catherine Mukamuri and an own goal). Match 2 vs Hillcrest (defending champs) 2-1 (Scorers: Mishka Lindoor and Catherine Mukamuri) Match 3 vs Kimberley Girls High 1-0 (Scorer: Daniella Patsalos)
