Each individual knew that they had to fight for their position in the team as there were over 30 school boys training to make it in the VP 2nd team. Mr. Hutchinson told us that it was an incredibly difficult decision to make as he could only choose 15 players for his team, but he wished he could have chosen all of us. The 2014 season was one of the less excellent seasons in a long time for the U/16 boys. We started the season well by competing in the Powerade Victoria Park Soccer Challenge with top soccer schools from around the country. The boys managed to produce top performances and finished first in their group. In the semi-final, we played against Lawson Brown and beat them 3-1. The final was between us and Bethelsdorp and after tremendous effort and tenacity VP managed to defeat them 1-0. We thank Mr. Hutchinson for being a leader, coach, and father to the 2nd team. We played our first game against Westview which ended in a 2 all draw. After our first game, we all came together as a team and played in a way that we enjoyed with a style that we found comfortable. That mentality started all the way from the back with our goalkeeper, Thato, and his defenders, Zenande, Lizo, Njabulo, Sinethemba and Moremong. We called them Knights because Knights never sleep on duty. In the middle of the season we competed in the NMMU Soccer Charity Cup. Our performance was once again outstanding and we ended again top in our group stages. In the semi-final we managed to defeat Strelizia 2-1 and progressed to the final to meet Bethelsdorp. After a tough match, the score was tied at 1-1. We had to go to a penalty shootout where we unfortunately lost. Our midfielders were the heart of the team. They were incredibly quick and ran themselves ragged for their teammates. The strikers hardly ever missed opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net, and it was for that reason we called them the Snipers. Though we started our league games with great team spirit and enthusiasm, we couldn’t capitalise on all our chances to have the best possible results. Our excellent attacking from our midfield and strong The overall top goal-scorer in the team was Amtha 195
