the Metro, as well as visitors from East London and
Bloemfontein. We see our tournament not only as
a showcase for school soccer, but also as an educational event to promote honesty, discipline and good
behaviour. Over the years we have seen our efforts
bear fruit, both on and off the pitch.

At the Kloof High School Soccer Tournament held
in Durban during the July holidays, Victoria Park’s
17-year-old goalkeeper, Nkosinathi Gcakasi, was
named “Goalkeeper of the tournament” for the
second year in succession, in spite of playing seven matches with a broken finger. Nkosinathi, who
would not allow his injury to keep him on the sidelines, conceded only one goal in the seven matches the team played. These included a “Tournament
