VPHS Friday afternoon for 2 ½ hours. We have worked on basic tennis grip, forehand and backhand strokes and services. There still remains a bit of work, but given the amount of practice that should be done, we are seeing some rewards. Kyle Myburgh has already stood in for a player in the 2nd team and has given a good account of himself. Playing in the doubles league in the 2nd and 3rd term introduced the players to competitive matches. The challenge to the players was to improve their tennis, irrespective of whether they won or lost. They took up this challenge, playing some 1st teams from other schools and being very competitive. The teams were as follows:Boys Girls Kyle Myburgh (Captain) Zamo Tana Tinashe Mbaba Chumiwe Mfazwe Mihlali Jaji Sibahle Mayakiso Asimahle Mbenya (Captain) Joy Militala Yanga Mfana Tanaka Kandayi The season’s matches and results:Victoria Park Girls versus Humansdorp Collegiate Linkside Westview Pearson Won 6 - 2 Lost 8 - 1 Lost 8- 0 Won - walkover Lost 6 - 2 Victoria Park Boys versus Linkside Cape Recife Pearson St Dominics St Georges Won 6 - 2 Lost 6 - 2 Lost 6 - 2 Lost 6 - 2 Lost 8 - 0 We can only improve from here and hopefully add value to the tennis of the school, as most of these players are juniors. With their commitment and passion, the future of tennis at the school looks very bright. Mr. M Barry 178
