Moot Court Provincial Finalists
Debating is the concept of researching a topic and
formulating an argument based on your understanding. Debating at Victoria Park High School has
grown immensely over the past few years and with
the guidance of Ms. Grieve, we are constantly contending to make league semi-finals.
The Moot Court Competition is a National Competition which challenges students from grades 10 and
11 to attempt to pursue a Moot Court case. Liyema
Mandlake and Phumelela Cacela represented Victoria Park High School and were announced as one of
the top eight school teams in the Province, making
them Moot Court Provincial Finalists.
This year has been exceptional with challenging
league fixtures and interesting friendlies. Debating
has been a year to remember! Two of our debating seniors have been selected to represent Eastern Province at the National Schools’ Moot Court
Competition 2014.

Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most
powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world.” In debating, being educated in the topic is
the weapon you can use to change the audience and
your opponents' perspectives. The feeling of succeeding in a debate is incomparable as you realize
the amount of time and effort put in has ultimately
paid off.
Winston Churchill believed that “Courage is what it
takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it
takes to sit down and listen.”
