Thanks to the success of the previous year’s musical and various choral competitions, the Victoria Park choir began 2014 at a considerable pace, with dozens of eager singers auditioning and flooding the choir with new members and enthusiasm. While the standard of music, and the passionate involvement in music at Victoria Park continues to grow, it is inescapably apparent that the Victoria Park choir will continue to serenade and stun audiences with singing of the very highest quality. As always, the pieces selected by Mr Jansen van Rensburg were varied, often challenging and naturally spectacular. With a fresh repertoire, the choir entered the Grahamstown Eisteddfod and the annual PE Kunsfees, hosted at Grey High School, with great success, earning gold and double gold awards respectively. The choir also captivated VP pupils with a widely popular performance at the school’s own Arts Festival, held in May. Pierre Durandt In the traditional finale at the Music Department’s annual Spring Extravaganza, the choir once again thrilled school pupils and parents with the product of a year’s dedication; particularly with a rendition of “The River” from “The Mission” sung en masse with the school wind band. The choir would like to express the most sincere gratitude to Mr Jansen van Rensburg for yet another year of exemplary choir leadership and invaluable support of the school’s musical voices. Sadly, the choir once again bids farewell to its Matric mem- 105
