Straight Outta Troy University

By Patrick Casanas

The National Junior Classical League convention was held this year at Troy University in Troy, Alabama. The bus ride down there was incredibly fun, until the air conditioning broke about 4 hours into the bus ride. After the stop at the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee, which was absolutely spectacular, the bus continued to make its way down to Troy University, taking many stops along the way but eventually reaching the campus late at night. Once we had arrived, despite the blistering hot weather and hurricane-like rain, this year’s convention was by far one of the most fun and memorable conventions. The cafeteria and food had some of the best that has been offered at any NJCL convention I have been to with selections such as an eternal pizza section and fried chicken. Though the dorms were not the most ideal, they did not stop us from having a great time. Summit students were constantly “thriving” in everything they did, including open certamen, a scavenger hunt, ludi, and testing. At the agora, Summit students sold wristbands, lanyards, and very fresh candy to students and earned a total of $200! The highlight for every Summit student, however, was seeing our very own Joseph Delamerced, the OJCL President, carry a real lit torch on stage.
