Sanitation: The sewers were clean for public use, but private lines? Those are awfully close to the waste sewage lines! I thought the water tasted foul this morning… Also, it’s not like anyone washed their hands after using the restroom, or washed their hands too much in general. Though the wells of the city were for the most part cleanly, that didn’t mean river water or stream water found nearby was. Also, unlike we have today, most Romans didn’t have shampoo or conditioner, or deodorant!
Perishable Food: You got some fruits and meat for next week, and can’t wait to eat them! Ever had that favorite treat that sits in the house for weeks, but is still good to eat? Not in Rome! Soon that meat will have gone bad, even though you salted it, and the apple wasn’t clean and now bugs eat it. If you have a favorite snack better eat it soon, because it can’t sit for very long in ancient Rome without going bad!
Religious Suppression: Don’t you just love being Christian? Not in Ancient Rome! Even Constantine didn’t like Christians before he converted. Better follow the polytheistic gods, or else! Even though most citizens were told lies such as: “Oh, you follow the god Perseus? Well did you know that Perseus is the son of our god Zeus? So why not just follow both?” But some religions were not as easily let slide. Oh, I have got to go! The sacrifice is starting soon…
