Vorys is proud to have sponsored the annual WELD Leadership Conference. The day-long program featured 25 leadership-focused breakout sessions and corporate board training. Vorys Columbus female summer associates attended the conference, along with professional development staff and other attorneys. Vorys attorneys Jennie Church and Lauren Johnson attended the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Leadership Summit in Cleveland. Paige Kohn, an associate in the Columbus office, participated in the 2017- 2018 class of the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation’s (OWBF) Leadership Institute. The Institute advances inclusion within the legal profession and enhances women’s leadership, business development, and communication skills for the benefit of the diverse communities in which they work, live and serve. In partnership with the Japan-America Society of Central Ohio and WELD, Vorys lawyers David Cook and Sachiyo Peterson held a business communication styles seminar for women. Attendees learned how to recognize different communication styles and how to overcome barriers to build strong relationships both at work and in the community. The event was presented in English and Japanese. Houston associate, Katrisha Shirley, was selected for the Houston Young Lawyers Association (HYLA) 2017–2018 Leadership Academy. The academy is dedicated to cultivating exceptional young attorneys, building on their existing talents through instruction and experience, and producing outstanding leaders with an enduring commitment to the betterment of society, community and the legal profession. 21
