Sheila Sheila came to live at Abbeyfield after sustaining a life-changing injury which meant she could no longer continue to live in her own home. She attends regular seated exercise classes run by fitness students who volunteer from a local college. The students listen to the residents’ needs and build exercises to suit each individual. These classes have helped Sheila immensely. Due to her injury, Sheila has to do physiotherapy exercises to help in her recovery. The volunteer-run classes enable her to do her exercises with the rest of the group. “ I have to do my exercises so it is nice to do them as a group. It is one thing that everyone can join in with. I personally feel a real benefit from it. “ Without the support and expertise of the sports specialist volunteers, it would be difficult for Abbeyfield to run similar classes.
