VOLUNTEERS MAKE ABBEYFIELD
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Abbeyfield. Our buildings are not just bricks and mortar, they have people at
their very core. Every resident, staff member and volunteer creates the unique, warm and caring atmosphere
that defines Abbeyfield.
Our founder Richard Carr-Gomm, our first ever volunteer, gave his time to help lonely and isolated people.
Today, over sixty years later, 4,500 volunteers continue his legacy, bringing their skills and personality to our
houses and homes to ‘make time for older people’.
This book shines a small light on the amazing support offered by volunteers across the Abbeyfield movement
and the many ways the lives of our residents are enhanced through volunteering.
