Ann
Ann had been volunteering for seven years as a befriender of one resident, Willie,
until recently when he passed away.
“
It is not about ‘doing a good deed’, it is about establishing a valuable two-way friendship.
Willie was my friend. He was a character and a great talker.
“
Being a volunteer is not always easy, but here at Abbeyfield we’re always able to support you along the way.
After tapping into support from her local Abbeyfield house, Ann decided to take some time away from
volunteering after her bereavement.
Recently, Ann returned to Abbeyfield to start volunteering again. She’s now befriending another resident within
the home.
“
It is a new chapter and the new resident is very different. I received excellent
support from the home and this has enabled me to return and help make a difference
to another resident.
