Chana Yon
hana Yon is the founder and owner of Front Porch Therapy , a Natural Hair Studio in Orlando , Florida that focuses on starter Locs , Loc Repair and Maintenance . With over 20 years of experience , Chana works with all textures of natural hair making every effort to enhance the beauty of each client by creating unique styles without compromising the health of the Client ’ s hair . She is currently on the Advisory Board at West Side College where she is able to mentor and assist cosmetology students in making the transition from student to stylist . Chana is very passionate about transforming clients with astonishing looks and providing education so that they maintain a lasting look away from her chair .
Not only is she a stylist , but she is also a naturalist who strongly believes in the importance of taking care of yourself inside out .
She enjoys traveling , gardening , making natural hair products , preparing healthy vegan meals and juicing .
What would you define as a Woman Warrior ? My definition of Warrior Woman is a woman who sets goals and no matter the obstacles , limitations and disappointments that come along , nothing will interfere with the accomplishments of those set goals . A response of the word “ no ’’ is never accepted as final . We do exactly what we came to do !
What Obstacles did you overcome to get to where you are today ? There were many obstacles I faced throughout my journey . Surviving a severely abusive marriage , having a daughter who had a terminal illness , managing a career , surviving a cardiac
39 IBA Success Magazine n VOL 7 , Issue 1 arrest , losing a parent and close loved ones is just to mention a few . Obstacles mold and shape us , not define us . There will always be something designed to disrupt our progress , however , as a Woman Warrior , we push through our adversities .
What inspired you to become the woman that you are today ? My inspiration comes from my mother and being a mother . My mother instilled strong values in my sister and me at a very young age with an entrepreneurial mindset . My Mother ’ s love , dedication , and positive influence has always been what pushes me to be better everyday .
What are your current endeavors and future goals ? I am currently working on a continued effort of educating people to have a healthier lifestyle through juicing and a healthy vegan diet . Making delicious vegan foods , sweet treats , juices and showing people that you can have enjoyable foods and still keep it healthy .
What words of advice would you like to share ? I encourage everyone to believe that all dreams are reachable . No matter what the circumstances or obstacles . A cardiac arrest in 2017 took my life and gave it right back to me all at once . I see life through a whole new set of eyes and have been given another chance to live . Nothing is too hard or complicated for you not to be able to push through . n
