WELCOME VOLUME 6 n ISSUE 2 he process for developing each IBA Success Magazine begins with reflections of past editions coupled with what may be going on in my life or the lives of those around me. For this issue, the pandemic, social injustices, and a strained political climate collided and were all strong considerations to lead the theme. I, however, thought it would be prudent to focus on how all of those outside forces affect businesses locally and globally, triggering individuals to look beyond their comfort zone. Welcome to the Global Edition of IBA Success Magazine! As an African American business owner who is understandably saddened by the impact of police brutality and fearful of the short and long term implications of the pandemic, I empathize with the concerns of most business owners. No matter what your industry or product, universally, the business has been affected. For those who were innovative and quickly adjusted to the new normal, the business has thrived. In contrast, others have been forced to shut their doors permanently. COURTESY KALYSA WILSON Many who have found themselves among the unemployed have begun to explore entrepreneurial pursuits that had once been fleeting ideas. My regular readers understand that being an entrepreneur is in my blood. I live it, eat it and love it. I am overjoyed when someone new begins to pursue their passions, especially during challenging times such as these. Our featured cover story explores how one business owner created a service that will allow all people to conduct business with each other regardless of their race. Infinite Scholars, a national scholarship fair, tackles the question, “Does obtaining a higher education for black youth really matter?” This issue also has interesting interviews ranging from restaurateurs to retailers regarding how they are adapting to a world suffering from COVID-19 and how rioting/ vandalism has affected their business. This issue also features the six cover story contestants who supported our first annual cover contest. Each one shares how they have managed to maintain a level of success during some tough times. Because I recognize that IBA Success enjoys a national platform, I felt it was fitting to create a program that would help push the products of business owners globally. I have created “Shop Success”. Be sure to read more about it. I am truly excited about everything in this issue. It is a true example of my commitment to bring each reader something that will help to improve them personally and/or professionally. It allows me to look in the mirror and know that I have done my very best, despite what might be thrown my way, to create the most edifying product that I can. I invite each of you to do the same within your industry, your product, or even if you work for someone else. Bring your best two feet forward each and every day. I invite you to enjoy this edition just as much as I enjoy bringing it to you. Again, welcome to the Global Edition of IBA Success Magazine! —Jennifer Yon VOL 6, Issue 2 n IBA Success Magazine 3
