PHOTO : DANIEL URHØJ hile self-discipline is perhaps the number one catalyst for achieving any goal or dream in life , the journey towards the worthy ideal demands ongoing , clever adjustment to the feedback life throws at us , So that course correction can happen instantly . Our ability to build the character we need to become in reaching the goals we set , is prime law in any endeavor .
The word “ Discipline ” defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary :
• Control gained by enforcing obedience or order .
• Orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior .
• Training that corrects , molds , or perfects the mental faculties or moral character .
Your New Super Character
My wishes for the following is that you get ideas for how to start building your new super character consciously and gradually , through four main areas :
1 . Life ´ s “ Feedback ” mechanism 2 . Hardening your “ skin ” 3 . How to boost your discipline 4 . And “ Feeder interests ”
“ Olympian athletes did not become so , by solely choosing to do what they love to do .”
1 . Life ’ s Feedback & Your Reaction Towards It
In order to be able to crush through any obstacle in business and / or life , you need to build a shield against pain by gradually raising your pain threshold .
Concerning building your new character , you need to grow some “ thick skin .” But at the same time , you want to build that shield , designed to govern negative emotions and experiences in a way so that it doesn ´ t make you insensitive to development , constructive critique , and feedback .
In order to be able to clearly sense “ life ´ s feedback mechanism ” and react cleverly to it , it is important that we don ´ t create a character that is completely immunized towards constructive critique or better ways to obtain a given goal .
2 . Hardening your “ Epiderma ”
The following three activities are ideas for obtaining a strengthened character ( please consult a doctor or physician before attempting to do any of the following at your own risk and responsibility ):
• Cold showers or Ice baths , where you gradually extend the time immersed ( Do NOT exceed a max of 2-3 minutes , to begin with , and never more than 8 min )
• Morning push-ups from flat hands gradually turning into push-ups on your knuckles
• Daily visualization in detail
3 . Discipline- “ Doing what it takes ”!
In building your character and discipline , be aware that regardless of what you do , you ´ re continuously building a new self , either consciously or subconsciously . Here are a couple of thoughts you will most likely benefit from when building your character .
Before any activity , you need to accomplish , but don ´ t feel like doing , ask yourself :
• “ Who am I becoming ?... The sloth or the Hero ?”
• “ Where am I in 5 years from now , if I continue the way I currently choose to build my character ?” Connect with your dream and see if your character fits the description .
• Don ´ t think . Just do it .
• At any given time , you have a choice : Your current character – or the character you want to become . Remember , you ´ re always BECOMING a new version of yourself .
• Be aware : The longer you leave the autopilot on , the longer it will take to rebuild your new winning character . Be it 21 , 30 , 60 , or even 90 days .
4 . “ Feeder Interests ” - Additional Inspiration Boosters .
A feeder interest is a hobby or interest , which at the same time as you ´ re working closer to your goal by more disciplinary methods , allows you to dive into your own freedom of creativity and passion , just like a child .
We , as adults , often forget about playing and having fun , which robs us from using our imagination and being divinely inspired with easier and smarter ways to obtain our dreams .
Feeder interests could be :
• Composing music or playing musical instruments
• Traveling and meeting new cultures
• Swimming or other sports
These types of activities often prove to lead to astonishing breakthroughs and ideas , never otherwise attainable because we now “ let go of the outcome .”
