Good, Better & Verse
Come Home
The fireplace is still burning.
Its warmth reaches
The veins that go into my heart
It is why I am still ecstatic!
The leaping flames
Reflect sometimes our story,
I see you and me,
I hear your songs in all their glory.
There were nights
When my head
Lay calm
On the rise and fall
Of the waves of your chest.
Your heart, like the ocean,
Kept me afloat.
Above us, the midnight sky
Cradled dead stars with their quivering lights,
To see us off to sleep
With the memory of a gleaming night.
And I will never know why
Good things have to end
When nothing better is to follow,
Only worse that need a mend.
The fireplace is still burning
And I have the last of our letters.
Before we're down in ashes,
Come home, my love, unfettered.
