that my weekend homily on the Trinity
gave you a whole new way of thinking

God. Thinking of God as a family with three people in it
makes all the sense in the world to me. You are right.
That’s not a mystery. From now on every time I look at
my family (we are four though) I will think about, as you
put it Father Mike, the divine perfect family. Thank you.”

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EUCHARIST
AND COMMUNION

There is significant difference
between Eucharist and Communion.
Eucharist can refer to the consecrat-
ed bread and wine, but it also de-
scribes the entire liturgical action of
the Mass……the Eucharistic prayer.
The Eucharistic prayer is, according
to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM),
(78), the “center and high point of the entire celebration.”
In the Eucharistic prayer, we do more that ask the Holy
Spirit to consecrate the bread and wine. The church’s inten-
tion is that the faithful not only offer this unblemished sacri-
ficial Victim, but also learn to offer our very selves so that
day by day we can be brought, through the mediation of
Christ, into unity with God and with each other (GIRM, 79).
The Eucharistic prayer calls us to a life of sacrifice for one
another where we embody that sacrifice not only in the pray-
er, but also in the sharing of Communion.
Communion refers specifically to the Body and Blood of
Christ and to the part of the Mass that begins with the Com-
munion rite (the Lord’s Prayer to the prayer after Commun-
ion). Communion can be distributed outside of Mass as in a
Communion service and distribution to the sick and those
whom are shut-in. Communion distributed in this manner is
the same as the hosts shared at Eucharist, but what is miss-
ing is the unique offering of the assembly’s sacrifice of
praise that is intended in the Eucharistic prayer.
We must keep in mind that participating in the sacrifice
of Christ is the primary goal of the Eucharist.
Last year, 1.2 million Millennials (born between 1981
and 1996) women gave birth for the first time. That
brought the number of Millennial mothers in America to
17 million, and it represented 82% of all American births
last year. Fifty-two percent of Millennials say being a
good parent is one of their most important goals. ( I wish
that number was higher)
