SECTIONS The EP&P Section kicked off its webinar series on May 6, 2020, with speaker Richard M. Morgan, the founding partner of Morgan & DiSalvo, PC. in Alpharetta, Georgia, discussing “SECURE Act Analysis & Self-Assessment Tools.” Mr. Morgan’s presentation addressed and clarified the many complex ways in which the federal SECURE Act, which became effective January 1, 2020, is impacting trust planning for estate planning clients throughout the country. Mr. Morgan has also authored a series of articles regarding the SECURE Act, which can be accessed at https://morgandisalvo.com/newsarticles/articles/. On May 20, 2020, the EP&P Section was proud to welcome Professor Mary F. Radford, the Marjorie Fine Knowles Professor of Fiduciary Law at Georgia State University’s College of Law. Professor Radford, a longtime supporter of the EP&P Section, presented her much anticipated update on “Recent Developments in Georgia Fiduciary Law: January 1, 2019 through March 31, 2020.” Given Professor Radford’s recent retirement, as well as the cancellation of the 55th Annual Fiduciary Law Institute at which she was scheduled to make this presentation in July 2020, the Section was thrilled to be able to offer her presentation virtually to our Section members. John P. Strupe, Associate Attorney at Stewart, Melvin & Frost of Gainesville, Georgia, was the featured speaker for the EP&P Section’s June 10, 2020 webinar, at which he discussed “Charitable Trusts & Asset Protection Trusts,” topics of particular interest to those Section members representing and assisting philanthropically minded clients. Mr. Strupe guided viewers through the various planning aspects of such trusts, and outlined the many beneficial features of such trusts. The EP&P Section Board invites Section members and other Atlanta Bar members to join us for the following upcoming virtual events: • On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., James M. (“Jim”) McCarten, Counsel at Burr & Forman, LLP, will present: “Beyond PPP and EIDL Loans: Getting the Most Cash from Uncle Sam for Your Clients and Your Firm.” • On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., Professor Cassady V. (“Cass”) Brewer, Associate Professor of Law at Georgia State University’s College of Law, will give a presentation on the nature and use of benefit corporations in estate planning, and will discuss the Georgia benefit corporation bill (H.B. 230), recently passed by the Georgia General Assembly and sent on June 30, 2020, to the Governor for consideration. As the public health emergency unfolds, the EP&P Section stands ready to offer its members alternatives to in-person gatherings and looks forward to working with the other Sections of the Atlanta Bar Association to offer bar members opportunities for professional development and social interaction. The EP&P Section Board wishes to thank our generous Section Sponsors for their support, as well as the Directors and Staff of the Atlanta Bar Association for their outstanding support and guidance during these uncertain times. 2 - Professor Mary F.
