Good article on crows in the April issue. I used to do some crow hunting in my younger days. I kept a live crow that I winged as a decoy. I had him for about 3 years and would stake him out in the edge of a field. When some crows came by he would call like crazy.
One day he flipped over on his back and started screaming. A large red-tailed hawk swooped down and started attacking the crow. I ran out and had to kick him off.
Not too long after that we had the crow out hunting. We looked up he was flying off. He undid the knot I had tied to his leg. I expect he had a lot of stories to tell the other crows. Totally true, not an April Fool's tale.
I had a game warden tell
me that the crow is Mexico's state bird and the US has some agreement to where we only shoot crows on specified days of the week. I don't know if that is still true or not.

Cool story Water Snake 2! I understand that many states have limitations on the days you can hunt crows during the week.
For example, here are the regulations for New York:
- Hunting on Fri., Sat., Sun. & Mon. ONLY;
- Fed Migratory Bird Stamp NOT Required;
- Rifles and electronically amplified bird calls, or sounds permitted

Can't wait to sit down tonight and read the piece on the new Archenemy reel. We have also started crow hunting the last couple of winters here in Southeast Missouri and we love it.

We are getting accustomed to the Archenemy reel and have been using it nearly every trip we've taken so far this year. We've taken some nice carp and buffalo with it. Some that even pulled a little drag.
So far the reel is holding up as advertised, although there has been some feedback about failures with the pick-up pins and the reel foot that we've read about. My belief is that some people are just harder on equipment than others.
