BOWLS CLUB NEWS MEN’S PENNANTS - This year the men fielded 4 sides in the District Pennant competition (Grades 3, 5 6 & 7), not a bad effort for a small club. Unfortunately, our only success was the Grade 3 side winning District and Zone Flags, finishing equal third in the State Finals at Yamba. A tremendous effort and special thanks to our local supporters who travelled to Yamba. Thankyou also goes to the board and men’s Bowling Club Committee for their continued support and assistance. I’m hoping the 2017 season will also see more results come our way. 2017 pennants commence Saturday, 4th March, 2017, so please place your name on the pennant sheet if you wish to be considered for selection. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - With the exception of the Mixed Pairs and Mixed Triples (both down to the final) all Championships have now been completed for the year. Nomination sheets and playing dates for the 2017 Championships will be posted by mid November, with the Fours being the first event commencing Saturday 21st January 2017. Our only success in the Champion of Club Champion competitions was Rocky Stone and Scott ‘Benjamin’ Franklin who won the District event only to be beaten in the Zone Final. PRESENTATION NIGHT - Our Combined Presentation Night is Saturday, 3rd December commencing 6:30pm. It should be a great night to honour the achievements of our Club Champions and commence the festive season. ALL WELCOME (SEE CLUB NOTICE BOARD FOR DETAILS) TOURNAMENTS - Congratulations to Sue & Allan (Shane, Herb) Fuller who won the local area playoff for Aloha Bowls. From everyone at the Club, best wishes and good luck in the playoffs in Coffs Harbour on Saturday, 3rd December. Should they win Coffs, Hawaii will never be the same! The Kalite Fours were held on the 15th and 16th October with the composite side of Barry Smith, Geoff Forslund, Kent Price & Craig Donaldson winning the event. Several of our club’s sides featured it the minor prizemoney. The weekend was a great success with a capacity field of ninety-six bowlers competing and our sincere thanks go to Dave Dyet and family of Kalite Pty Ltd (your local and interstate transport specialists) for their generous sponsorship of the event. This was the sixteenth year of Dave’s sponsorship. A BIG THANKYOU. BUSINESS HOUSE COMPETITION - This competition will run over six Wednesday evenings commencing early February and consist of a fours team and interstate local businesses. Due to a green being out, it will be restricted to the first 12 teams nominated. Details are yet to be finalized, however, the entry fee will cover 5 or 6 nights of bowls for four people, followed by a free BBQ each night. The firm’s sign will also be displayed at the club for the following 12 months. FAREWELL - Members wish David Parsons all the best in his new position at Fredo Golf Club and thank him for his years of service as our Greenkeeper. We also warmly welcome our new greenkeeper, Craig Hayfield. Our best wishes are also extended to Scott ‘Benjamin’ Franklin for his efforts at the club. We hope his employment as CEO of the ‘Ridge’ Bowlo is very enjoyable and successful. SOCIAL BOWLS - Social Bowls is healthy with an average of 24 bowlers enjoying bowls during October, in addition to those playing on visitation and various charity days. ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE CLUB, PLEASE CALL IN CHARITY DAY - During November two very worthwhile charity days will be held. Firstly, on Saturday 26th November, Ian Brenton will hold ‘Bowls for Boobs’ in the aid of Breast Cancer and on Sunday, 27th November, the Kempsey Lions Club will hold a day in aid of the Kempsey District Hospital Auxiliary. Nomination sheets are at the Bowlo. To everyone, have an enjoyable and safe festive season.
