SUPPORTERS
IN MEMORY OF
Family and friends attending the funeral of
Katie Cheng were encouraged to give financially
to Global Interaction’s ministry in Hong Kong in her
memory. Here’s the inspiring story...
Katie was born in 1921 into a Christian family in Hong Kong. She was an
English teacher at a church school for most of her life. She was a committed
Christian and her faith grew deeper after she immigrated to Sydney with her
husband Andrew and their young children in the 1970s. Katie was a member of
the Central Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowship and studied the Bible
fervently. Being bilingual, Katie was popular among both the Chinese and the
Australian communities and she was friendly to everyone. She was enthusiastic
about evangelistic ministries of the church and regularly supported the mission
to Chinese restaurant workers.
Katie later attended Chatswood Baptist Church when she moved into the area.
Her participation in Bible studies, evangelism and community work grew as her
health and energy permitted. After moving to a nursing home at the age of
90, Katie made the most of the opportunities to share her faith with staff and
residents.
Her children saw the presence of Jesus in their mother’s life being very real,
comforting, sustaining and empowering. Katie was exceedingly joyful when she
could share her faith with someone, even a stranger.
After her funeral her children reflected, “It is so wonderful that God gave
the family members, relatives and friends who loved Katie an opportunity to
contribute to Global Interaction’s ministry in Hong Kong, Katie’s birthplace.”
Coincidentally (or all in God’s plan), Katie knew the current Global Interaction
workers, the Robertson family, from her days at Central Baptist, where Lindsay’s
parents were
