this stupid girl, who doesn’t even love you.” “You’re wrong!” Alex cried. “She has always loved me from the day we met! Tell him, Jade!” Jade shook her head, crying, shaking and screaming. The demon proceeded to grab Jade by the neck. “You don’t want this thing anyways, Alex! Look at her! Crying, shaking! It’s pathetic!” the demon said, tightening his grip. “Put her down!” Alex ordered. “Put her down and take my life! This wasn’t how the story was supposed to be! You told me not to give her up and not to let you down! I did what you wanted, now lock yourself back up!” Time seemed to slow down. Everything around Alex just froze. The only thing he could hear was the whispering screams of Jade yelling his name and then a crack. She was dead. The demon had killed her. Alex filled with rage and anger, a million different voices instructing him what to do ran through his head. He knew what he had to do. He had to kill the demon and end all of this. Alex leapt for the knife still firmly planted in Jade’s fiancé. He shook it at the demon violently. “Get out of my life and crawl back to the hole you came from!” Alex firmly planted the knife right into the demon’s heart. But the demon never even flinched; he only grew a smile and examined the knife. There was blood. But, it was not the demon’s blood. It was Alex’s blood. Confused, Alex examined the room, scanning every corner, ever crevice. He only saw the bodies of the man he hated and the woman he loved. No demon. Alex slowly looked down, blood gushing and staining his forearm. There was never any demon. It was always Alex. He had killed the demon. He had killed himself. Alex collapsed to the floor, struggling to remove the knife from its freshly created wound. Alex slowly directed his attention towards Jade’s body. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, “I never meant for it to come to this. This wasn’t how the story was supposed to go. You were supposed to be mine. We were supposed to be happy. But, I deprived us both of that.” Alex’s vision slowly dimmed as he let out his final words: “Goodnight, my love.” It was done. The demon had won, claiming the lives of those who did not deserve the punishment. Jealousy had taken its toll and left nothing but corpses on the floor. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for attending the show. I can feel your bodies shaking and your blood curdling. I hope you all learned something about this tale, that jealousy comes with a price, sometimes more devastating than others. Everyone carries a demon deep down inside of them, some are just more willing to cut the chains and set it free, listening to the disgusting advice it has to offer. It may shock you to know this, but, this was my story. I am Alex. I was given the chance to present to you the tale of what measures I was willing to go through to claim the love of the girl I had been searching for my whole life. My opportunity came knocking, and I answered with open arms. So the next time you find yourself in a similar situation as mine, take my advice, and let the story play out as it should be. Do not take your demons own advice. With that, I leave you with one final question. What would you do to claim your prize in life and what consequences would you be willing to accept? That will always remain up to you. Goodnight. Goodbye. 33
