Cold Nights, Warm Hearts

Our cheeks were red and our fingertips were blue.
Our legs ached from running down the street, but
none of that stopped us.
The light of the moon illuminated our faces,
exposing our smiles and rosy cheeks.
We laid down the thin blanket on the empty soccer
field that earlier was filled with little kids making
their first goals.
As we laid on our backs feeling the wet grass
soak through the blanket, we looked at the billions
of tiny stars that covered the midnight sky.
We forgot about our heartbreaks and personal
battles and worries. We forgot about the start of
sophomore year on Monday and we focused on
the moment we were in.
