$100,000
The VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation recognized
36 students with an interest in golf at 2016 VSGA Day
Thirty-six students were recipients of
VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation awards
at the annual VSGA Day at Richmond
Country Club on May 2. In all, $100,000
was awarded to 34 students with an
interest in golf and two students pursuing
turfgrass studies at Virginia Tech.
David Qin (Glen Allen) and Amber
Liu (Vienna) were recipients of the
foundation's top awards. Qin earned the
Dan C. Keffer Award, a $7,000 scholarship
that goes to an individual in honor of the
former VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation
Committee Chairman. Liu earned the top
Spencer-Wilkinson Award, which affords
young women with an interest in golf the
opportunity to pursue college and career
development.
Other Spencer-Wilkinson Award winners
($3,000 each) were Yancey Harrison
(Charlottesville); Kathryn Cardenas
(Stafford); and Kelley Devens (Salem).
The David A. King Award ($3,000),
given to a top academic standout, went to
Mahathi Kambham (Centreville). The Red
Speigle Award ($3,000), annually given to
a top student from the Peninsula, went to
Max Peterson (Toano).
The turfgrass award recipients were
Camden Shelton (Christiansburg, $2,500)
and Lee Coppock (Blacksburg, $1,500).
