The Rules
First piece of advice in the scoring area:
Take your time!
Keep your own score during the round
and ask a Committee member to read
your scores back to you while following
along with your notes. If you leave the
scoring area then later discover that you
have signed for a score lower than you had
actually taken, you are disqualified (note
the exception to Rule 6-6d). If you leave
the scoring area, then later discover that
you have signed for a score higher than
you actually had, you must stick with
that score. These situations show why it
is so important to take your time during
this process.
If you are confident that all of your scores
are correct, your marker has signed, you
have signed, and the Committee member
has verified everything on the scorecard,
you are free to leave the scoring area.
Although tournament golf is different
than playing on the weekends or after
school with your friends, golf is a game and
is supposed to be fun. The people in charge
of the competition (e.g. the VSGA) are there
to help you at the competition, so take some
time to listen on the first or 10th tee. Some
of that information can keep you from
incurring penalties while on the course.
