Prepurchase equine imaging
exams help owners acquire
new horses with confidence
When a veterinary client makes a
decision to purchase a new horse, the
prepurchasing exam conducted by an
equine vet offers important peace of
mind before the investment.
An X-ray of the hind hocks and fetlocks will help
determine the health of a dressage horse’s hindquarters, and X-rays of the front knees and
fetlocks can help identify any potential problems with a reining
prospect. In addition, a set of baseline prepurchase images can
give both owner and vet an understanding of the horse’s
condition before training begins. So if a problem arises, it can
be attributed to the training versus a preexisting condition at
the time of purchase.
A lot is at stake for the owner in the prepurchase exam, and
poor image quality can have a big impact on a veterinarian’s
business, resulting in decreased client satisfaction, less client
retention and a lack of future referrals.
