BY THE NUMBERS 304 independent seniors’ apartments Residents living in Caboto Terrace 218 Residents living in Casa Del Zotto Villa Charities (VCI) continued to upgrade our three apartment buildings for independent seniors in 2018. The upgrades were part of both longer- term, ongoing improvements to the buildings and a major new initiative to repair and replace aging facilities and infrastructure throughout VCI’s Lawrence/ Dufferin campus. 190 Residents living in Casa Abruzzo The three buildings – Caboto Terrace, Casa Del Zotto and Casa Abruzzo – op- erate under the Italian Canadian Benevo- lent Seniors Apartment Corporation and Casa Abruzzo Benevolent Corporation. Together, they provide housing to more than 712 people in 637 units. THE 2018 UPGRADES INCLUDED: • Hydro vault repairs at Casa Abruzzo and Casa Del Zotto • Generator retrofits at Caboto Terrace, Casa Del Zotto and Casa Abruzzo • Replacement of fire-rated doors at Casa Del Zotto • Fire panel upgrades at Caboto Terrace • Security infrastructure upgrades at Casa Abruzzo • Installation of push button openers for residential building laundry room doors 56 VILLA CHARITIES ANNUAL REPORT • Installation of TV screens in building lobbies to inform residents about VCI programs, events and services • Ongoing renovation of units, new LED lighting and other upgrades at all three seniors’ apartments • Installation of artwork from Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery A BUSY CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES Numerous activities were offered to residents of all three apartments during the year, among them: Circle of Care fitness classes; Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day lunches; Canada Day festivities; Christmas dinner; a New Year’s party; Befana and Italian Heritage Day Celebrations at Casa Abruzzo; Friday dances at Caboto Terrace; Zeppole (celebrating St. Joseph the Worker); bingo nights and more. Program provided personal care and home support to seniors living in Caboto Terrace, Casa Del Zotto, and Casa Abruzzo in concert with the Ontario LHINs. Extra-curricular activities were also offered to provide opportunities for social engagement. These include exercise classes in partnership with Circle of Care, and the Villa Colombo Community Services Congregate Dining Program. In addition, the office of Centro Anziani provided information and referral services to seniors such as an income tax clinic, educational services and general enquiries. A WIDE ARRAY OF SUPPORT SERVICES Villa Colombo Community Services offered various programs to seniors who face challenges living independently. These programs include the Seniors Active Living Centre, Alzheimer’s Day Program, Frail Elderly Program, Transition Group, Meals on Wheels and Assisted Living Program. The Assisted Living 57
