Working Our Way to the Water
Update on the Progress of our 2014 Auction Fund-a-Need Project

The campus restoration projects funded by WOWW 2014 would not have been possible without the dedicated leadership of faculty members Jeannie Nichols, Roger Crafts, and Norma Jenner.

March 2014 - Fund-a-Need Success
Our generous community gave nearly $170,000 to improve access to our beautiful waterfront and elevate Villa’s outdoor education experience.

August 2014 - Faculty Training
Faculty participated in an all-day outdoor education workshop at the Island Wood Outdoor Education Center on Bainbridge Island.

Fall 2014 - EarthCorps Days
Students worked with their buddies and EarthCorps volunteers to remove invasive plants and plant native species.

February 2015 - Outdoor Education
The University of Washington’s Department of Landscape Architecture team led faculty, staff, and student discussions on how to further incorporate outdoor education within our various curricula.

Spring 2015 - Garden and Greenhouse
Students and their buddies helped re-design and re-plant the school garden adjacent to the new greenhouse.

May 2015 - Restoration Day
Over a hundred volunteers, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni, spent a Sunday making excellent progress on creating garden paths, building trellises for the garden, weeding native plant areas, and cleaning up the entrance to the lake trail.

May 2015 - Historic Grotto Rebuilt
20 stonemasons rebuilt our historic grotto. They refined their skills in the art and craft of dry stonewalling with the assistance of world-renowned
dry stone masons Andrew Loudon of London, England and Dean McClellan of Toronto, Canada.
