Editor’s Note
The June issue is full of local con-
tent. Thanks to the veterinarians
who gave up their time to contrib-
ute. At Vet360 we aim to highlight
issues with practical relevance and
import.
The article from Prof Vinny Nai-
doo on generics is an important
read for us veterinarians. As phar-
maceutical regulations are being
more strictly applied we do need
to become cognisant of what our legal obligation to our
clients is regarding the prescription of human generics.
Too often our prescribing decisions are based on costs
and not on good practice.
The surgical article is a window onto future methods
of surgery for medial patella luxation. My own dog is
already the recipient of a not so cheap prosthetic. These
patients can be very difficult to manage and now there
are alternative options for an improved result in a sub-
group of your patients. Enucleation is a frequently per-
formed procedure and the article just highlights when it
is most appropriate and when an eye may be able to be
saved. And then there is the article on electrophoresis –
it’s an important read as it defines the cases in which the
test has diagnostic value.
The CPD points has been split between 2 articles. We
aim to keep our articles concise – this means I cannot
often eke out 10 good CPD questions, so 2 articles with
5 questions on each will hopefully be more practical.
