Prognosis
Without treatment, cats with hyperthyroidism usually
die of concurrent renal disease, heart disease, liver
disease, or systemic hypertension. With treatment,
the prognosis varies from extremely good to guarded,
dependent on the presence of heart disease, renal
disease, and systemic hypertension; whether or not
any systemic damage has become permanent before
treatment of the hyperthyroidism; and which treatment options are available.
