If juvenile practice in Vermont once
seemed more like social work than law, the
2008 overhaul of its legal framework put
an end to the idea. The rewritten law increased the formality of juvenile proceedings, inserted attorneys into every phase of
the proceedings from first appearances to
final resolution, and provided for assertive
legal representation of parents and children at all stages of the cases. These were
intended results, but for some participants
it signaled pointless interference with the
operation of their protecti ٔ
