IN MEMORIAM Thomas J. Amidon Silvio T. Valente Thomas J. Amidon, 78, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2017 in the pres- ence of his loving family. Tom was the son of George H. Amidon, former state com- missioner of taxes and Vermont State Trea- surer. He was admitted to practice in Ver- mont in 1967 after receiving his L.L.B. at the New England School of Law and his B.A. at the University of Vermont. Tom was a well-loved lawyer in Stowe who en- joyed skiing, hiking, traveling and working on his land in Stowe. He particularly loved the lakes, mountains and farmlands of Ver- mont. Tom is survived by his wife KK and children. Hon. Silvio T. Valente, died peacefully on August 9, 2017 after a period of declin- ing health. Born in Rutland on January 28, 1927, Judge Valente attended Mt. St. Jo- seph Academy and UVM, aspiring to be a doctor. He excelled, rather, in political sci- ence and graduated 12th in the 1952 class of the Boston College School of Law. After practicing at O’Neil, Delany & Valente and serving as Rutland City Grand Juror, Depu- ty State’s Attorney, Rutland City Alderman and Vermont State Colleges Trustee, on May 13, 1974, Judge Valente was sworn in as Vermont Superior Court judge by Gov- ernor Salmon. In 1985, he began law day mock trials with themes for school children, which has become one of his legacies. In 1997, the Rutland County Annual Report was dedicated to him, upon his retirement, honoring his 24 years of exemplary service as Superior Court Judge. Judge Valente was president of the Rutland County Bar Association in 1979, and has chaired com- mittees for the Vermont Bar Association. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kath- leen O’Rourke Valente and his children, Anne Marie, John and Tom. CLASSIFIEDS SERVICES BRIEFS & MEMORANDA.
