VEILED: PERSPECTIVES
INTRODUCTION
Religious dress is a highly misunderstood key aspect of Islam. Islamic practices and values
themselves are excessively distorted by both the Western world and Islamic fundamentalist
radical groups. Reasons of misinformation and false accusations regarding Muslims and
their religious following vary and have different motivations. Regardless of those intentions
or simply unconscious prejudice notions set forth by others, it is Muslims who are experiencing the backlash of the rest of the world.
Without a realistic informative background on Islam, there’s a tendency to disregard core
values of the religion and generalize them through an Orientalist perspective and cultural
standpoint. These misrepresentations and unguided stereotypes are notably experienced by
women of Muslim backgrounds.
