VEILED: PERSPECTIVES Ifrah had always wanted to wear hijab growing up and it wasn’t until half-way through her highschool career that she decided to start. Escaping her tendency to overthink ideas, one day she drew a scarf over her hair and went to school. Her parents never pushed her into wearing hijab and insisted she wait until she felt comfortable prior to engaging in the practise. It was entirely between herself, her ideals, and her relationship to God that reinforced her final decision to not hold off any longer as it was a choice that made her happy and she found herself at a good time in her life to start. Since then, she has worn the veil routinely. “Funny thing is, none of my friends said ‘hi’ to me for a while because they didn’t recognize me. I did not tell anyone about it because they didn’t need to know; it’s between me and my religion. It’s not a choice that will be affecting anybody else.” 3
