Branded cotton products have been around
for a few years now. When they first emerged,
the emphasis was on ease of use, and
different formulations laid claim to superior
wicking properties and shorter break-in
times, with varying degrees of success.
This year, the focus has shifted to heat resistance
and wick longevity, whilst incorporating materials
other than traditional organic cotton.
Canna Cotton is one such example. With a 20
percent infusion of processed hemp fibre, the
manufacturer claims their cotton blend is more
heat resistant, longer lasting and more absorbent
than traditional cotton blends.
Ready to test these claims, I prepped my
favourite rebuildable atomisers. The first thing I
noticed about Canna Cotton is that it’s very easy
to work with. The convenient pre-cut strips are
not a new idea, but this blend seems easier to
cut down to size and the grain of the fibre stays
quite rigid, with minimal separation or excess
fluff. The fibres also compress much more than
I’m used to, allowing more fibre to be threaded
through your coil, which tends to increase
wicking efficiency.

Once wicked and trimmed, the fibres naturally become very evenly
spread out, which saves some time and effort on dispersing the
ends of your wicks. I was so impressed with this that I didn’t thin out
the ends of the fibres as I usually would.
Break-in time for Canna Cotton is impressively short. Experienced
vapers know that most cotton products require a good few drips, or
even half a tank’s worth of e-liquid before you start to experience
full flavour. This was not the case here. From the second or third
vape, I was getting great flavour production from an e-liquid that I’m
very familiar with. This is a fantastic benefit that ensures minimal
wastage of your favourite juice, especially for vapers who prefer to
re-wick often.
On to heat resistance and wick longevity. High wattage users will
be pleased with Canna Cotton. Using a rather hot, exotic dual
coil build, I found that this blend outlasted my long time favoured
Japanese organic cotton pads. The difference was less noticeable
on low power single coil builds, though this is to be expected. I did
