JUICE REVIEWS BY BENEDICT ‘ NED ’ JONES
COLA Percentage + VG / PG Ratio : 6 % at 70 / 30
Cola is an elusive flavour profile in vaping and concentrates from competing brands are wildly different when compared to one another . Capella ’ s offering is a great place to start when formulating a good cola blend . It ’ s not overwhelmingly pungent , which makes for a forgiving mixing process , you can really experiment with concentration here , depending on whether you ’ re looking for a dominant note or just an accent . As a single flavour mix , Capella ’ s cola is a little too stripped back for my liking , but when paired with creams , it ’ s relatively easy to create a convincing “ soda float ” profile . Alternatively , a quality fruit and coolant pairing make for a great beverage profile that ’ s perfect for warmer weather . This rendition of cola is versatile and can be part of some amazing mixes in the hands of experienced users .
SWEET MANGO Percentage + VG / PG Ratio : 4 % at 70 / 30
Mango is arguably the king of tropical fruits , and it ’ s fair to say that many successful commercial e-liquids have thrived in the past 18 months by nailing this exotic profile . Capella ’ s offering is a ripe , juicy rendition and with the right attention to detail can make for a vivid fruit mix . I recommend starting low on concentration with this one . Too much and floral notes from the mango may dominate your mix . Four percent is a good reference point to work from and depending on what you hope to achieve , there is a little bit of wiggle room in either direction . Capella ’ s Sweet Guava is an excellent pairing here , but virtually any bright fruit concentrate works well . If you find that the floral notes are too potent , you can subdue them with a small amount of Capella ’ s Super Sweet . As low as 0.25 % in your mix will help to round out any unwanted pungency .
JUICY ORANGE Percentage + VG / PG Ratio : 4 % at 70 / 30
Capella ’ s Juicy Orange is surprisingly complex for a single fruit concentrate . It has characteristics of a candied soda orange , natural juice orange and even orange zest . Combined with its forgiving potency , this means it can fill a wide number of roles depending on pairings . If you want a fruit mix to pop , but don ’ t want to overload it with citrus , a low percentage of this concentrate will provide tartness , without the more potent acidity that comes with lemon flavourings . If your mix has an undesirable dry mouth-feel , Juicy Orange can totally rejuvenate the recipe . For a bold and simple orange mix , pairing it with Capella ’ s Sweet Tangerine will give you fantastic results . This concentrate ’ s ability to be used as either a top note or just an additive make it a great addition to any mixer ’ s collection .
FUNNEL CAKE Percentage + VG / PG Ratio : 4 % at 70 / 30
Bakery flavourings are perhaps the most difficult to get right . Often the profile changes dramatically with the concentration of your mix , and each individual concentrate can include a complex profile . Capella ’ s funnel cake is a flavouring that you ’ ve probably tried without even realising it , if you have been vaping for a while . It primarily tastes of fried dough , similar to a doughnut although slightly heavier . There are also subtle hints of cinnamon and vanilla at play . With a reasonable steep , Funnel Cake makes for a solid single flavour mix , but as is often the case , it really shines when paired with complementary flavourings . Other bakery elements , such as Capella ’ s Sugar Cookie will add body to your Funnel Cake mix , and a moderately heavy cream such as Capella ’ s Vanilla Bean Ice Cream will round out more complex recipes . If you ’ re in need of a dense and complex bakery flavouring , Funnel Cake is a great option .
TOASTED ALMOND Percentage + VG / PG Ratio : 3 % at 70 / 30
Nut inspired flavourings are often overlooked by new mixers . This could be explained by the fact that many are extremely potent , dominating flavour profiles even at low concentrations . Capella ’ s Toasted Almond is slightly more forgiving than most , but still needs to be treated with care . As a single flavour mix , it ’ s rather authentic but a little dry , and so along with every nut concentrate I ’ ve used , benefits hugely from being used as a subtle accent in a more complex recipe . I particularly enjoy using Toasted Almond to add depth to tobacco mixes . In this application , it will slightly sweeten the profile whilst imparting a gritty texture . Alternatively , it can be used in virtually any bakery profile for similar results and is especially useful in this instance for manipulating fruit flavourings by layering them in to the mix . Toasted Almond is more suited to advanced users , but is well worth the effort .
