Founded in 2014 , Kilo has become a household name in the vaping world by producing numerous lines of popular e-liquids . Four years later , the pod-system gold rush seems unstoppable and the company has decided to dip its ’ feet into the hardware market .
The 1K is a simple closed pod system that doesn ’ t include frivolous features . It ’ s good to see a gimmick free device which is built with functionality in mind , whilst maintaining an elegant form factor .
At just 9.5mm thick , the 1K will slide into any pocket virtually un-noticed , making it perfect for situations that call for an ultra-portable device . The matte finish , combined with a sharp , industrial silhouette gives the system a minimalistic but premium aesthetic .
There are no buttons or menus to speak of , just tiny LEDs to indicate when the 350mAh internal cell needs a charge . The power is activated by the pressure of your draw , resulting in a vaping experience that mimics traditional cigarettes uncannily . The battery life is very impressive for such a small device . When used as your primary vape , expect it to last for half a day of moderate use before needing a charge . In markets outside of the EU , where the 1K can utilise 45mg nicotine salts , you may be charging even less frequently .
The pods themselves are also impressive . They feel solid , and slide into place nicely with a reassuringly strong connection , provided by two magnets . As is expected from Kilo , the flavours are bold and well balanced . They have chosen to go for simpler profiles than their usual fare , which makes sense given the extremely low power output and high nicotine content .
I sampled Dewberry Fruits , Menthol Tobacco and Lemonberry Ice pods , all at 20mg strength , for this review . They all provided a satisfying but not overwhelming throat hit . The salt nicotine ’ s higher bioavailability means cravings are satisfied incredibly quickly . Of the three , Menthol Tobacco was my personal favourite . This pod provides an intense icy hit with a subtle tobacco base . I don ’ t often vape these kinds of profiles , but in the context of a pod system , it just seems perfect .
The Kilo 1K pod system is a fool proof device that delivers nicotine quickly in a convenient fashion , with excellent flavours to boot . The only ( minor ) issue I have with it is that no pods are included with the device . I will be shocked if this doesn ’ t become one of the most successful vaping products of 2018 .
