JUICE REVIEWS BY BENEDICT ‘NED’ JONES
ORANGE MANGO ICE GRAPE ICE CHERRY ICE
The Dr. Frost line is inspired by
Malaysian vape culture and mango
flavours are the first thing that springs
to mind when thinking of the region.
Pungent, ripe mango is the top note
here. It’s bright and brings some
sweetness to the mix but doesn’t
dominate the profile by any means.
Instead, a tart candy orange plays a
prominent supporting role that ensures
the floral notes of the mango do not
become overpowering or sickly. The two
are well balanced and at times seem to
merge into one amorphous fruit flavour.
The profile is rounded out with an intense
icy finish that keeps the blend light and
ensures a refreshing vape every time. In a market full of cryptically named
e-liquids, it’s sometimes welcome to
see a product with simple labelling that
just tells you what to expect. Grape Ice
is a stripped back blend from the Dr.
Frost line, but that doesn’t necessarily
make it a boring one. The grape here is
a bit different to what you might expect
in the e-liquid world. It’s bright and has
some candy like sweetness, but there
are also some floral notes which are
more reminiscent of elderflower or green
grape. Instead of the darker flavour
usually found with American styled
concord grape e-liquids, this is lighter
and more refreshing. The strong coolant
finish rounds this flavour off and makes
for a compelling, if simple profile. Cherry Ice is another simple blend from
the Dr. Frost line. Cherry is a divisive
flavour and in some cases manufacturers
opt to go for a milder profile in order to
balance the flavour. This isn’t the case
here. Instead, Dr. Frost have chosen
to create an intense cherry blend that’s
likely to be an acquired taste. The cherry
here is rather potent and borders on
medicinal at times. When combined with
the icy coolant finish, the effect is akin to
a cough drop. There is, however, a hint
of a more candied black cherry in the
mix too, though it is more of an accent
that plays second fiddle to the stronger
medicinal cherry note. Many cherry fans
will be pleased with this one, but it’s not
for the faint of heart.
WATERMELON ICE STRAWBERRY ICE Although Watermelon Ice seems to
be another very stripped back blend
from Dr. Frost’s own description, this
one seems to have at least a few
elements that make for an interesting
vape. A sweet and mildly sour candied
watermelon dominates the mix and this
is hardly a surprise. It’s a mellow flavour
that does well to avoid any soapy off-
notes sometimes found in melon mixes.
This is supported by what seems to be
a honeydew accent. This adds another
dimension to the watermelon and keeps
things interesting. There also appears
to be a subtle gummy candy note in the
background that adds a slightly sticky
mouth-feel to the profile. As you would
expect from the Dr. Frost range, things
are finished off with an intense icy blast,
which makes for a light but flavourful vape. Strawberry Ice is undoubtedly the
simplest of the Dr. Frost line-up and
while strawberry vapes are a safe
choice, there’s a good reason that they
remain to be so popular. This is an
in-your-face candied strawberry that
does not attempt to replicate the natural
fruit. Instead, it’s a bright and sweet
candy profile that’s undeniably nostalgic.
There’s no hidden accents or layers of
complementary flavours here, just an
unpretentious but punchy strawberry
that lingers on the palate for a while after
vaping. The profile is finished with Dr.
Frost’s signature coolant and it works
well here to emulate the experience of
a frozen lolly. Strawberry Ice might not
be an exotic or innovative flavour, but it
works and will likely be enjoyed by
many vapers.
